The Proprietors

Lancaster Recording Studios is owned and operated by Mike Boyer and Mary Ann O’Hara in the historic West Side of Saint John New Brunswick.

Mike Boyer has been playing and recording music for the last 30 years. Mike has done hundreds of sessions with artists of all descriptions, from folk groups and string quartets to a capella choirs, rock bands, jazz trios, clarinets, whistles, harpsichords and bagpipes.

He has a knack for choosing the right mic the first time around and makes musicians feel at ease with his easy manner and quick humor. Because of his musical background, he can act as vocal coach from behind the console and help find just the right part for a song.

As a live musician he sings lead vocals and plays keyboards and harmonica with his blues band “Cold shot”. His Chicago style dirty blues harp playing has been compared to that of Joe Murphy and King Biscuit Boy.

Mary Ann O’Hara studied with the Royal Conservatory for nine years and after completing her studies started teaching piano privately. She was involved for many years with the N. B. Competitive Music Festival and in later years as an accompanist for the local school choirs.

Her musical career has taken her into many aspects of the Saint John arts scene. She is also an accomplished organist and choir director and has held that position for the last twenty six years.

Both are volunteers with the colourful, “sometimes Irish, sometimes do-wop” men’s chorus “Men & Music” playing charity functions and entertaining the elderly.
